A vivid dream reignited this passion, inspiring her to bring modern food delivery concepts like DoorDash and Uber Eats to Nigeria.

Challenges in Nigeria’s Business Environment

She highlighted persistent issues like unreliable power supply and a lack of skilled labor. “Power was a major hurdle when we started. Diesel and gas costs were enormous, though the situation has improved slightly. As for labor, many people are eager to work but lack the skills or willingness to perform effectively,” she said.

Ibronke-Omolokun described the stark contrast between doing business in the U.S. and Nigeria. In the U.S., stable power, accessible funding, and a supportive ecosystem for small businesses create a favorable environment, whereas Nigeria faces significant barriers in these areas.

Government’s Role in Encouraging Diaspora Investments

She called on the government to introduce policies that support small businesses, including providing accessible loans, improving infrastructure, and ensuring stable power supply. “Small businesses are the backbone of any economy. Supporting them will not only boost the economy but also address unemployment,” she stated.

Ibronke-Omolokun criticized the lack of effective policies to support SMEs, emphasizing the need for more government intervention to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.
