Chibok Girls Abduction Is A Lingering Wound On Nigeria’s History – Atiku
The abduction of over 200 schoolgirls from Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014 remains a poignant chapter in Nigeria’s history. A decade later, the scars of that tragic event continue to haunt the nation…..READ ALSO Atiku Abubakar Extends Birthday Wishes To Aliko Dangote
On April 14, 2014, Boko Haram insurgents stormed the school under the cover of darkness, kidnapping 276 girls aged between 16 and 18. While some managed to escape in the chaos, over 90 girls remain in captivity, subjected to unimaginable horrors and forced into marriages and motherhood.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed profound sadness over the lack of closure on this issue. In a recent statement, he highlighted the enduring impact of the abduction, particularly on the lives of the girls and their families, as well as the broader implications for girls’ education.
Despite efforts by successive administrations and the tireless advocacy of activists, the plight of the Chibok girls underscores the persistent threat of insurgency and the challenges in ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria’s citizens, especially in conflict-affected regions.
As the nation marks the 10th anniversary of this tragic event, the call for justice, accountability, and the safe return of the remaining girls reverberates louder than ever. The scars left by the Chibok abduction serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the root causes of extremism and insecurity, safeguard the rights of vulnerable populations, and uphold the principles of justice and human dignity for all Nigerians.
