Court Fixes May 26 For DSS To Open Terrorism Case Against Abubakar Malami, Son
According to Ireporter Online, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed May 26 for the Department of State Services (DSS) to commence its case in the alleged terrorism trial involving former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his son, Abdulaziz. The matter, which is before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, resumed with counsel to the DSS, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), informing the court that an amended five-count charge had been filed to replace the earlier one. He thereafter applied for the withdrawal of the initial charge and urged the court to adopt the fresh charges, a request that was not opposed by the defence counsel, Shaibu Aruwa (SAN), who confirmed receipt of the amended filing.
Upon the reading of the amended charges, both Malami and his son entered a plea of not guilty. The prosecution then sought a date for the commencement of trial, while the defence counsel requested that the defendants continue enjoying the bail earlier granted on February 27, noting their compliance with all bail conditions. With no objection from the prosecution, Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the defendants should remain on the existing bail terms. The court subsequently adjourned the case to May 26 and June 15 for hearing. In the amended charge, Malami and Abdulaziz were alleged to have engaged in preparatory acts linked to terrorism in December 2025 in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, and were further accused of unlawful possession of a Sturm Magnum 17–0101 firearm as well as 16 rounds of ammunition, according to the court filings.
