Deji Adeyanju React To Bobrisky’s Jail Sentence, Calls For Community Service Instead
Deji Adeyanju, a rights activist lawyer, has raised concerns over the six-month jail sentence handed to Okuneye Idris Olarewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, for Naira mutilation. Adeyanju criticized the severity of the punishment and suggested adopting a community service approach for victimless crimes like currency mutilation……READ ALSO “Bello El-Rufai Displays Lack Of Proper Home Training,” Says Activist Deji Adeyanju
In a statement, Adeyanju highlighted the need for a balanced approach to sentencing, especially considering efforts to decongest prisons across the country. He emphasized that while breaking the law should not be condoned, the court should take into account cultural factors surrounding certain offences, such as spraying Naira, which has historical roots in Nigerian culture.
Adeyanju also questioned the singling out of Bobrisky for prosecution, noting that there were others engaged in similar acts at the event where the offence allegedly occurred. He urged security agencies to avoid targeting individuals for alleged offences beyond those specified in the charges.
In conclusion, Adeyanju called for a reconsideration of sentencing practices for victimless crimes like Naira mutilation, advocating for community service as a more appropriate alternative. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights while urging a more thoughtful approach to law enforcement.
