Edo 2024: Rema, Obaseki, And PDP’s CampaignsEngr Ajulo MartinsIt is no secret that politicians are meant to campaign with their performance on the ground. They are supposed to showcase their achievements and progress in areas such as infrastructural development, health, employment, agricultural development and education. However, it is appalling to see how some of the PDP have failed to deliver on their promises and yet choose to hire superstar musicians of 500 million Naira per day to campaign for them, all at the expense of the taxpayers of Edo State.

PDP and Obaseki are elected by the people to serve the people. They are supposed to be accountable for their actions and ensure that the citizens they represent have access to basic amenities such as good roads, hospitals, schools, and job opportunities. Sadly, the PDP have failed in this regard, leaving their constituents to suffer the consequences of their negligence.

In Edo state, poor infrastructure is a major challenge that hinders economic growth and development. Roads are in deplorable conditions, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to the market. Health facilities are inadequate, and patients have to travel long distances to access medical care. Schools lack basic amenities such as textbooks, laboratories, and qualified teachers, which hampers the quality of education.

Employment is another critical issue that affects many communities. Young people are graduating from universities and colleges without job opportunities, leading to a surge in unemployment rates. Agricultural development is also hindered by lack of proper infrastructure, which makes it difficult for farmers to access markets, fertilizers, and other farming inputs. With 18 LGA, Obaseki has not bought up to 5 tractors since he inherited over a hundred tractors from Adams Oshomole.

It is, therefore, disheartening to see the PDP and Obaseki consultant who have failed in these areas to opt for cheap political stunts. They hire superstar musicians of 500 million per day to perform at their rallies, hoping to attract more supporters. This is not only a waste of taxpayers’ money, but also a sign of the politicians’ lack of commitment to serve the people.

Music can be a powerful tool for mobilizing people, but it should not be used as a substitute for good governance. The people need tangible solutions to the challenges they face, and it is the responsibility of politicians to provide them. Politicians should be judged by their performance on the ground, not by the number of musicians they hire performing at their rallies.

In conclusion, politicians who have failed to deliver on their promises and prefer to hire musicians to campaign for them are a disappointment to the people they represent. They should be held accountable for their actions and work towards delivering on their promises. The people deserve better, and it is time politicians put their interests aside and serve the people with the dedication and commitment they deserve.
