During an interactive session with editors, bureau chiefs, and media executives, Olukoyede revealed that he personally called Bello, who was then serving as governor, to come to the EFCC office to address the allegations against him. However, Bello refused to comply, citing concerns about journalists planted by a senator.
Despite offering Bello assurances of privacy and security, including the use of a private gate, he insisted that EFCC personnel should visit his village for interrogation. Olukoyede emphasized that the EFCC followed due process and did not violate any laws in its attempts to arrest Bello.
He expressed frustration over the obstruction of Bello’s arrest, noting the significant law enforcement presence at Bello’s residence during the attempted arrest. Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in financial misconduct, emphasizing that previous governors, including Willie Obiano and Abdulfatah Ahmed, have been arraigned and granted bail.
Olukoyede vowed to hold all those obstructing Bello’s arrest accountable, asserting that the EFCC would continue its efforts to ensure accountability and transparency in governance. He emphasized that no individual implicated in financial wrongdoing, regardless of their position or influence, would be spared from investigation and prosecution.
