Everybody Danced On His Grave – M.I Abaga Responds To Drake And Kendrick Lamar Hip-Hop Rivalry

Nigerian rap icon Jude Abaga, better known as M.I Abaga, has shared his perspective on the ongoing hip-hop rivalry between American rapper Kendrick Lamar and Canadian superstar Drake.

Speaking on the Afropolitan platform, M.I discussed how the backlash against Drake went beyond the music world, with critics from all walks of life eager to discredit him. He remarked, “If Drake manages to make a comeback, it will elevate him beyond everyone. Not only the music industry, but also tech enthusiasts—everyone had their turn celebrating his downfall.”

Despite the criticism, M.I expressed confidence in Drake’s ability to recover, commending his skill in creating impactful music. “If anyone has the talent to make a comeback album, it’s Drake. He’s the guy who knows how to make music resonate,” M.I stated. “The first phase of Drake’s music was about his journey to rap stardom, but now life is giving him a second story, and he’s the best storyteller to take advantage of that opportunity.”

M.I also acknowledged that the feud between Kendrick and Drake had altered his view of Lamar, now considering him one of the top artists in hip-hop. “Before this, Kendrick wasn’t in my top 10, but I now see him as at least in the top 3,” M.I confessed. “That being said, you can’t place Kendrick above Drake just because they’ve been active at the same time. Drake has consistently dropped hits for 15 years, and you can’t deny his influence.”

Drawing from his own experience, M.I shared that he had faced similar criticism in Nigeria, despite his contributions to the hip-hop scene. “I felt some sympathy for Drake because I’ve had a similar journey,” he reflected. “No matter what I did, the Nigerian rap community would call it ‘boring.’” He concluded by praising the Kendrick-Drake rivalry as both entertaining and significant, offering a shoutout to both artists.
