Ahmed, who has been under EFCC custody since Monday, is slated to face charges of fund diversion, with proceedings scheduled to take place at the Federal High Court in Ilorin.

According to sources close to the EFCC, the move comes after Ahmed honored an invitation for questioning on Monday. His Chief Press Secretary, AbdulWahab Oba, affirmed his compliance, asserting that it was part of routine procedures.

However, tensions escalated as bail conditions imposed by the EFCC became increasingly stringent, prompting accusations of shifting standards. Oba criticized the agency for demanding sureties with federal director status and Abuja-based properties, a requirement deemed contradictory to the initial handling of the case in Abuja.

In response to the developments, supporters of the former governor staged a demonstration outside the EFCC office in Ilorin on Wednesday, demanding his immediate release or swift legal action.

The unfolding saga underscores the gravity of corruption allegations surrounding the ex-governor, as the EFCC intensifies efforts to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law.
