Expose Insiders Reveal Alarming Reasons For Prof. Mamman’s Ouster From Education Ministry
Staff members from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education have provided insights into the factors that led to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove Prof. Tahir Mamman from his position as Minister of Education. Reports that Prof. Mamman was dismissed along with four other ministers on Wednesday.…..CONTINUE READING
The other officials who were let go include Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).
In an interview with a source within the ministry indicated that Mamman’s dismissal was partly due to his alleged failure to address long-standing salary arrears owed to certain ministry employees. The insider stated, “About a month or two ago, it was widely reported that he was among the least performing ministers. Many years of arrears remain unpaid despite numerous promises.” This dissatisfaction among employees had reportedly led to protests over unpaid wages.
Another factor believed to have contributed to Mamman’s removal involves his alleged attempt to appoint Prof. Aisha Maikudi, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, as the university’s permanent Vice Chancellor. The insider explained, “The appointment of an unqualified Vice Chancellor may have played a role in his dismissal. If news of the improper process comes to light, it will expose deeper issues within the ministry.”
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the University of Abuja’s Governing Council had sought to make Prof. Maikudi the permanent Vice Chancellor, despite her reportedly not meeting all qualifications. Sources have indicated that the council relaxed the criteria to facilitate her selection, raising concerns about transparency.
Further investigations revealed that former Vice Chancellor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah might be advocating for Maikudi’s appointment as a way to repay a favor to her father, who had previously supported Na’Allah’s controversial appointment as VC five years ago. Notably, the advertisement for the position excluded the usual requirement for post-professorial experience, making Prof. Maikudi, who became a professor in 2022, eligible for consideration.
