“False Alarm! FG Team Confirms Total Peace For Nigerians In Ghana”
The governments of Nigeria and Ghana have jointly debunked circulating reports suggesting hostility towards Nigerians living in Ghana, maintaining that bilateral relations remain strong and peaceful.
According to IReporter Online, a fact-finding delegation led by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, visited Accra following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to investigate the alleged unrest.
During a joint press briefing with Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Odumegwu-Ojukwu affirmed there was no evidence supporting claims of aggression or protests.
“We engaged with Nigerian residents, students, and community leaders here in Ghana, and found the environment to be calm and harmonious,” she stated.
According to IReporter Online, the minister applauded Ghanaian authorities for their commitment to regional stability, particularly President John Dramani Mahama, whom she praised for his statesmanship.
She further recommended the revival of the Nigeria-Ghana Joint Commission as a strategic platform for resolving cross-border concerns and enhancing diplomatic synergy.
Ghana’s Foreign Minister also addressed the issue, stating unequivocally that no targeted demonstrations or anti-Nigerian sentiments had been recorded.
He warned against the circulation of misleading content online, noting that such misinformation threatens to destabilize decades of cooperation.
“People must be mindful of the content they share,” he said, referencing viral videos. “These portrayals are false and do not reflect the reality on ground.”
According to IReporter Online, both countries acknowledged past diplomatic challenges, including the infamous 1983 “Ghana Must Go” incident, emphasizing the importance of avoiding similar missteps through continuous dialogue.
The Nigerian delegation also held strategic meetings with Ghanaian stakeholders, community representatives, and regional diplomats, reinforcing a message of African unity and forward-looking diplomacy.
