Firestorm Erupts As Adeboye Apologizes: What He Really Meant Will Leave You Speechless

Nigerian filmmaker and evangelist Mike Bamiloye has come to the defense of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), amid the backlash following his comments on tithing. According to Naija News, Pastor Adeboye has been a trending topic on social media after he publicly apologized for a sermon he delivered years ago, in which he stated that those who do not pay tithes would not enter heaven.

The apology was made during the International Youth Convention (IYC) at Redemption City of God in Mowe, Ogun State.

In response to the uproar, Bamiloye took to his Instagram to criticize those attacking Adeboye while neglecting the other important messages from the viral video. He emphasized the humility it takes for someone of Adeboye’s stature to issue a public apology.

Bamiloye remarked, “They focused solely on the apology and disregarded the rest of the message. Let me remind you that my father, Daddy E.A. Adeboye, also said it is inappropriate to limit your giving to just 10%. For some, that percentage should be higher—20%, 30%, or even 40%. Ten percent is merely for beginners. If you aspire to manage finances, you must go well beyond 10%.”

He continued, expressing his disbelief that individuals outside the faith would grasp the principles of God’s kingdom, referencing 1 Corinthians 2:14 about the natural man not comprehending spiritual matters.

“If you are truly a child of God expecting His kingdom, you should not struggle with this statement,” he said, suggesting that those who do have issues with Adeboye’s comments might lack spiritual maturity.

Bamiloye highlighted the biblical story of Prophet Samuel, who misjudged God’s choice for Israel’s king, noting that it was only when God corrected him that he was able to acknowledge David as the rightful anointed one. He asserted that Pastor Adeboye’s public apology indicates his obedience to God’s correction.

He concluded that only someone with a focus on eternal matters would consider such an apology important, stating, “It takes humility for a person of such global influence to come forward and apologize. God speaks to those He considers humble.”
