Today, unconfirmed reports have emerged on social media that Obaseki has initiated the demolition of the Deputy Governor’s office within the Government House. This alleged act, aimed at preventing Shaibu from resuming his duties, has sparked widespread outrage among Edo residents, who are left questioning the governor’s irrational and vindictive behavior.

The very idea of demolishing a government office, built with taxpayers’ money, is not only wasteful but also a blatant abuse of power. Edolites are rightfully incensed, wondering what possible benefit Obaseki gains from destroying state property. The consensus among the citizens is clear: if these reports are true, Obaseki’s actions are driven by a desperate attempt to install his puppet, Asue Ighodalo, by any means necessary.

Philip Shaibu’s only “crime” was his courage to contest the governorship election against Obaseki’s chosen candidate. This move, which should be celebrated in a healthy democracy, instead resulted in his impeachment. Obaseki’s treatment of Shaibu sends a chilling message to others: dissent and independence will not be tolerated. His autocratic tendencies reveal a deep-seated insecurity and a fear of legitimate political competition.
