This decision follows the alleged assault on a doctor on duty by a male relative of a patient, further highlighting the growing issue of violence against healthcare workers.

The identity of the assailant remains undisclosed at this time, but the doctors, in collaboration with hospital staff, organized a demonstration within the hospital premises. Carrying placards with various inscriptions, they called for urgent intervention from government authorities and relevant bodies to address the increasing assaults on healthcare professionals in the state.

The strike serves as a collective plea for improved safety measures and security for healthcare workers, emphasizing the need for swift action to curb the rising trend of violence within medical facilities.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, pleaded with foreign-trained medical doctors not to abandon the country for career opportunities abroad. During the induction ceremony for these doctors, Alausa assured them of the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for their practice.

He emphasized the need for these doctors to stay in the country and contribute to improving healthcare, promising enhancements in infrastructure, working conditions, and salaries. With concerns about brain drain and the emigration of skilled professionals, Alausa urged the newly inducted doctors not to “japa” but to stay behind and help their country, emphasizing the government’s efforts to create a satisfying and enabling environment for their medical careers.
