In a high-stakes gathering at the Presidential Villa, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, led a crucial assembly with top officials, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, key ministers, and the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso….Read more Economic Reassurance: Government Ministers And CBN Chief Address Rising Cost Of Living Concerns
The focus? Tackling the alarming specter of food scarcity and addressing the recent wave of protests across several states.
The meeting, which commenced at 5:30 pm yesterday, was prompted by mounting concerns over escalating cost-of-living protests in Niger and Kano states.
In attendance were heavyweight ministers such as Dr. Tahir Mamman (Education), Wale Edun (Finance), Atiku Bagudu (Budget and National Planning), Abubakar Kyari (Agriculture), and Sabi Abdullahi (State for Agriculture).
Amid a backdrop of political tensions, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties engaged in a war of words over the protests, the urgency to address the root causes of public discontent was palpable.
Following the intensive three-hour deliberations, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, took the podium to brief the press.
He relayed President Tinubu’s grave concerns and announced a bold directive: the formation of a Presidential Committee tasked with taking swift action to ease the burden on Nigerian households.
Minister Idris reassured the nation of the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate food supplies, acknowledging, however, the nefarious exploitation of the crisis by certain individuals.
He affirmed, “This is just the beginning of that meeting. It is going to continue tomorrow and day after tomorrow. The government is very concerned about what Nigerians are going through, especially what has happened in Minna yesterday, and therefore government is taking some action to ensure that Nigerians have some relief in terms of the availability of food on the table.”
As the crisis unfolds, the government pledges decisive action, including the utilization of national food reserves to mitigate the plight of struggling citizens.
