‘Intellectually Bankrupt And Unrealistic’ — Onoh Tears Into Amaechi’s Presidential Pledges
Dr. Josef Onoh, former spokesman for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign in the Southeast, has openly criticized former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, describing his recent presidential ambitions and promises as “unrealistic” and “intellectually bankrupt,” according to iReporter Online.
Speaking in response to Amaechi’s remarks during a live session on the X Space platform titled Weekend Politics, Onoh issued a detailed statement challenging the feasibility and constitutional basis of Amaechi’s pledges.
According to iReporter Online, Onoh emphasized that his critique was not meant to disrespect Amaechi personally, as their friendship is valued beyond politics, but was necessary in defense of reasoned discourse and the ongoing efforts of President Tinubu’s administration to guide Nigeria toward sustainable progress.
Onoh specifically addressed Amaechi’s promise to change the constitution from indigeneship to citizenship if elected president.
He argued that this promise overlooked the complex constitutional framework of Nigeria’s federal system and warned that mishandling such changes could exacerbate ethnic tensions, according to iReporter Online.
On Amaechi’s assertion that he would end corruption in Nigeria within one month or resign, Onoh called the claim “intellectually bankrupt,” noting corruption’s deep-rooted nature and the challenges faced by previous anti-corruption efforts.
He also criticized Amaechi’s record as Minister of Transportation, citing controversies during his tenure.
Onoh further rejected Amaechi’s personal attacks on current government officials and urged voters to prioritize leaders with proven track records and realistic policy frameworks ahead of the 2027 elections.
