Just In: NNPP Urges President Tinubu To Address-Labour’s Minimum Wage-Demands

Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to heed the call of Labour leaders regarding the new minimum wage, emphasizing the critical need to avert a potential collapse of the nation.

In a statement released to journalists on Monday, Oguntoyinbo highlighted the urgency of the situation as the nationwide strike initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has brought activities across the country to a standstill.

Expressing concern that an extended strike could lead to dire consequences for the economy, the NNPP chieftain advised President Tinubu to engage in dialogue with the Labour leaders and accede to their demands.

He also urged the President to devise policies and initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of subsidy removal on the populace.

“Government must refrain from using intimidation or coercion against labour leaders. President Tinubu should engage directly with Labour Leaders to find a viable path forward, acknowledging the realities on the ground,” Oguntoyinbo stated.

He further emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to address the soaring cost of living, pointing out that even the proposed minimum wage of N494,000 would scarcely sustain an average worker in the current economic climate.

“The Federal government must adopt a holistic approach to alleviate the hardships caused by the escalating cost of living,” he concluded.
