Presided over by Honourable Justice Kenneth Okpe, the court delivered its two-hour judgment on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, finding Ifezue guilty of forcing the victim to ingest a poisonous substance, resulting in her tragic demise.
The case unfolded after Nneke went missing on November 11, 2020, following a job assignment. Her mutilated remains were discovered around Maryland in Enugu metropolis just five days later, sending shockwaves through the community.
Ifezue, along with her brother Chukwuemeka, faced a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder. While Chukwuemeka was acquitted due to lack of evidence implicating him, the court concluded that Ifezue bore responsibility for Nneke’s death.
During the trial, damning evidence including police exhibits and witness testimonies painted a vivid picture of the crime scene and the suspects’ involvement. Items recovered included currency, electronic devices, makeup tools belonging to the deceased, and the key to a vehicle allegedly used to transport Nneke’s body.
Prosecution Witness 7, Sgt. Udeze Oguguo, presented compelling evidence, including WhatsApp and text messages exchanged by the victim shortly before her untimely death.
In a swift and decisive judgment, Justice Okpe affirmed the prosecution’s case, ruling that Ifezue’s guilt had been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The court sentenced her to death by hanging, marking a pivotal moment in the quest for justice for the slain makeup artist.
The verdict serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of violent crimes and the unwavering commitment of the justice system to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
