Labour Party Guber Candidate, Akpata Calls For A New Era As Edo State Marks 33 Years

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Edo State marked a significant milestone—33 years since its creation. As the state continues to celebrate this momentous occasion, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata has released a heartfelt message that perfectly aligns with the hopes and aspirations of every Edo indigene.
Akpata’s press release begins with a warm congratulatory note to every son and daughter of Edo State, recognizing the importance of this anniversary as a moment to reflect on the journey thus far and to envision the boundless potential that lies ahead. He pays tribute to the visionary founders whose tireless efforts led to the creation of Edo State, acknowledging that the progress witnessed over the past three decades rests on the foundation they laid. “We stand on the shoulders of these giants, and their legacy continues to inspire us,” Akpata declares.
The core of his message, however, centers on the indomitable spirit of the Edo people—a spirit that has been the driving force behind the state’s progress. From resilience in the face of challenges to creativity and entrepreneurial zeal, the people of Edo have consistently demonstrated their ability to overcome adversity and thrive. Akpata highlights how Edo has produced leaders across various fields, from academia to industry, sports to the arts, and how the state’s sons and daughters have consistently driven economic growth through their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Yet, Akpata’s message is not without a sober reflection on the current state of affairs. He points out the stark disconnect between the current administration’s claims of progress and the harsh realities faced by the people. As he has traveled across the state, from Benin City to Auchi to Uromi, Akpata has witnessed firsthand the suffering and despair that have reached unprecedented levels under the outgoing government. This administration, which began under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and concludes under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has only deepened the wounds of misgovernance and unfulfilled promises, Akpata asserts.
The Former President of the NBA paints a poignant picture of the challenges facing the state—youth unemployment, the struggles of the elderly, and the plight of farmers grappling with inadequate support and crumbling infrastructure. The dreams of a prosperous Edo State, which burned bright 33 years ago, now flicker precariously in the winds of neglect and mismanagement.
With the Edo gubernatorial election just 23 days away, Akpata emphasizes the significance of this moment. “This election is more than a political contest; it is a battle for the soul of Edo State,” he states. The choice before the people is clear: continue down the path of unfulfilled promises or embark on a journey of genuine transformation. Akpata envisions an Edo State where every citizen has the opportunity to reach their full potential, where innovation thrives, and where small businesses flourish. He speaks of a state where progress is not measured by the wealth of a few but by the well-being of all.
