Mahmuda Terrorists Kill Three in Fresh Attack on Kwara Community

The Mahmuda terror group has resumed attacks in Kwara State, killing three villagers in Duruma, a rural community in Baruten Local Government Area.

The assault occurred on Tuesday morning while local hunters, who usually assist in defending the villages, were away in Ilorin for a national forest guard training.

Despite the deployment of soldiers to troubled areas following previous attacks, locals said the terrorists exploited the hunters’ absence and struck. The victims were buried immediately, according to community reports.

A local resident confirmed that the terrorists also torched a farm settlement the previous week and have increasingly exerted control over communities such as Kemanji, Tenebo, Baabete, Nuku, and Nanu in Kaiama LGA, as well as villages in Yashikira District, Baruten LGA.

Some affected communities in Borgu LGA of Niger State—notably Babana and Wawa—have also reportedly fallen under the group’s control.

The Mahmuda group is a new and growing threat in North Central Nigeria, operating around the Kainji Lake National Park. Attempts to reach the police spokesperson in Kwara were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
