‘Mass Layoff’  Kaduna Electric Clarifies Job Cut Claims – 900 Workers Sack

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has dismissed reports claiming the termination of 900 employees, labeling them as misleading.

The company emphasized that it is undergoing a comprehensive transformation process to ensure long-term sustainability. Addressing concerns raised by labor unions, Kaduna Electric confirmed that only employees of the Independent System Operator (ISO), a division of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), received ‘services no longer required’ notifications.

Abdulazeez explained that the decision was necessary due to financial and operational challenges affecting the company’s ability to meet its obligations. While acknowledging the difficulty of the restructuring process, he stressed that it was essential to align the workforce with market realities and improve efficiency.

The company also expressed regret over extended power outages that impacted some customers for over 20 hours and assured swift resolution of labor disputes to restore normal operations.
