MBF Urges Nigerians To Upgrade Arms For Self-Defense
The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has challenged the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, regarding his directive against Nigerians carrying arms, asserting that such a move is not in the best interest of the people…CONTINUE READING
Dr. Bitrus Poguthe, the National President of the MBF, issued a statement on Monday, maintaining that any order restricting Nigerians from possessing certain arms for self-defense, especially when assailants roam freely with advanced weapons, would be a betrayal of the people.
Pogu argued that a reconsideration of the directive is necessary given the failure of security agencies to adequately protect Nigerians from marauders.
He stated, “I completely disagree because the security agencies are not adequately protecting Nigerians, and Nigerians are being killed like chickens.”
Pogu emphasized that allowing Nigerians to carry certain categories of arms, which were not of military grade, is crucial for their self-defense.
He criticized the collaboration of authorities in leaving areas vulnerable to criminals with sophisticated weapons.
“Nigerians should be allowed to carry at least some arms to defend themselves. Before now, we had some categories of arms, short guns, and so on, which were allowed.
This should be allowed and should remain allowed. Anything short of that means there is a conspiracy against Nigerians,” Pogu asserted.
He called for a reconsideration of the directive, highlighting the existing allowance for certain categories of arms for Nigerians, and suggested that citizens should even have a higher level of arms for self-defense due to the documented failure of security agencies in protecting them.
