Mikel Obi, speaking on The Obi One podcast, hinted at the possibility of an epic encounter between Nigeria and Ivory Coast, particularly if the latter manages to secure a spot in the final after overcoming the odds in the group stage.

Reflecting on the turn of events, Mikel remarked, “I was thinking about it the other day, and I was thinking that we managed to beat them in the group stage, and they were on the verge of leaving the tournament. All of a sudden, they are back in it, and now, if they can manage to get to the final, who knows?”

Ivory Coast, having triumphed over Mali in the quarter-finals, is set to face DR Congo in the semis, aiming to earn a place in the highly anticipated final. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles secured their spot in the semi-finals by defeating Angola in a thrilling quarter-final match.

Mikel Obi also praised the outstanding performance of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who has emerged as a standout player in the tournament. Nwabali, initially expected to be the backup goalkeeper, has delivered exceptional performances, conceding only one goal and recording four clean sheets.

Mikel Obi commended the team’s overall performance, highlighting the critical role played by Nwabali in the squad. He said, “When you look through the whole team, everybody has been absolutely superb, starting from the goalkeeper, which is something I talked about before the tournament. I said one position we need to make sure we sort out is the goalkeeping position, and we’ve managed to do that.”
