Minimum Wage-Strategy Praised By Adeyanju: Commends NLC And TUC (Details)
Activist Deji Adeyanju has commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for employing a “good strategy” in their push for a new minimum wage.
Recall that organized labor embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday to protest the low wages for workers in the country. Frowning at the current high cost of living, organized labor demanded N494,000 as the new minimum wage, a significant increase from the current N30,000, but the Nigerian Government offered N60,000.
Following Monday’s meeting between government representatives and organized labor, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to paying a minimum wage higher than N60,000. This meeting resulted in the suspension of the industrial action on Tuesday.
Posting on X, Adeyanju wrote: “Nigerian workers to NLC & TUC. Well played organized Labour. Good strategy on the minimum wage issue. Nigerians are behind you, please don’t fold or disappoint them this time. Aluta continua.”
