Abubakar made this declaration during a briefing session held on Wednesday in Abuja, where he updated members of the House of Representatives Committee on Air Force during their oversight visit to the NAF Headquarters.
Highlighting the prevailing security landscape, Abubakar noted its fluidity, dynamism, and unpredictability, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to address emerging threats effectively.
While acknowledging a decline in terrorist activities in the northeast and northwest regions, Abubakar highlighted a concerning rise in incidents of kidnapping and hostage-taking perpetrated by these same criminals.
He cited recent coordinated kidnappings of schoolchildren in Kaduna, Sokoto, and Borno, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Furthermore, Abubakar addressed the persistent threats posed by secessionist groups and oil thieves in the southeast and south-south regions, despite a decline in their activities.
In response to these challenges, Abubakar affirmed NAF’s commitment to a diverse range of intensive air operations, including intelligence surveillance, reconnaissance, air interdiction, and armed reconnaissance across operational zones.
He attributed the successes achieved to the steadfast support of President Bola Tinubu, particularly evident in the recent acquisition and induction of various platforms. Notably, he highlighted the induction of two T-129 ATAK helicopters as the latest addition to NAF’s fleet.
The Chief of Air Staff’s remarks underscore NAF’s relentless efforts to combat terrorism and other security threats, with a focus on enhancing aerial capabilities to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect its citizens.
