Speaking at the 43rd Convocation ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, sought the understanding and support of citizens during the implementation of economic reform programs.
Tinubu emphasized the significance of the government’s economic policies, expressing hope that the difficulties faced would result in the desired positive transformation in the near future.
The president highlighted the crucial role of universities in national development, urging institutions like ABU to collaborate with industries for the commercialization of research ideas.
Acknowledging ABU’s contributions to research and innovations, especially in agriculture, medicine, and engineering, Tinubu encouraged graduates to not only seek jobs but also become job creators.
He emphasized the limitless opportunities available to the graduates and commended the university’s efforts in internationalization policies and partnerships.
The Chancellor of ABU, Nnaemeke Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, commended the federal government for removing federal universities from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), citing it as a move to ensure university autonomy. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala, provided details on the graduating class, including the number of PhDs, Masters, and other degrees conferred.
As the nation grapples with policy implementations, Tinubu’s assurance serves as a beacon of hope, suggesting that despite the challenges, positive outcomes are on the horizon.
