Nigerian Government’s National Anthem Alteration-Criticized By Actor Chinwetalu-Agu (View Details)

Veteran Nollywood actor, Chinwetalu Agu, has raised concerns over the Federal Government’s decision to change the national anthem, labeling it a misplaced priority.

In a video shared by Voice of the East on X, the award-winning actor expressed his bewilderment, questioning how changing the national anthem would address the pressing issues such as the high prices of essential commodities in the market.

Agu, in the video, sang both the previous and the new national anthems, emphasizing his disbelief at the government’s focus on such a matter amidst other critical concerns. He exclaimed, “This is what it’s called misplacement of priorities. Change of national anthem, what has it got to do with the increase in the price of rice, a litre of fuel, a bag of garri, a tuber of yam?”

He further emphasized his point, stating, “National anthem is now a palliative, Nigeria na better cruise. The small national anthem we dey manage, e reach your turn, you change am, why?”

Agu highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting the loss of lives amidst these challenges, and questioned why the government diverted its energy towards changing the national anthem. He concluded by rhetorically asking, “Are we going to eat the national anthem?”
