Nigerians React As Leading Political-Figure Conspiring To Seize Lands In Rivers-Community

According to reports from Ireporteronline, the community claimed that the said politician, accompanied by some police officers, attempted to expel workers from the land. They have called upon the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in the matter.

During a protest held within the property in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Buduburisi Ejeknu, the Chairman of the Land Allocation Committee, asserted that a well-known politician in the state was endeavoring to take over their family inheritance.

Ejeknu stated that the community was in distress due to the plot to seize their land, emphasizing that the presence of policemen assisting the activities of the alleged land grabbers was causing tension in the area. He highlighted that the community members were being harassed by these policemen, who were purportedly aiding the land grabbers by deploying operatives to drive away workers at the site.

“We want to sound a note of warning that the Nkpolu-Oroworhukwo Community will not allow anybody, no matter how powerful, to conquer our land,” Ejeknu declared. “We have over 80 plots of land here, and our community has made sacrifices to the state in the past.”

Livingston Wechie, the Secretary of the Nkpolu Oroworhukwo Land Committee, condemned the police action as an affront to the people of Oroworhukwo. He affirmed that the community would remain peaceful while reclaiming what rightfully belongs to them.

“The politician is our kinsman, but he has made himself an adversary unprovoked to forcibly take our land,” Wechie remarked. “If he needs land, he should go to his community and follow the traditional right to acquire land.”

Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state command, responded to the incident, stating that they had not received any reports of police harassment. However, she urged the concerned parties to officially report any such incidents to the police for investigation and appropriate action.
