Just In: Katsina To Adopt Local Community-Based Approach For Even Development (Full-Details)

The Katsina State Government has announced plans to implement a local community-based project approach to ensure even development across the state.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda disclosed this initiative after the 6th regular meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Government House. He assured citizens that the plan, once fully adopted, would involve effective participation and involvement of local communities in project selection, implementation, monitoring, and programme design.

He said, “All projects will be initiated by the communities; however, this initiative doesn’t contradict the normal processes of awarding contracts at both state and local government levels.”

Governor Radda highlighted that mobilizing local communities to take ownership of the development projects executed by the state or local government is a key feature of the plan.

The governor further assured that the state government would revive and encourage community development projects and the improvement of basic services in villages and communities. He outlined that there would be three levels of committees for the initiative: a steering committee, a joint committee, and a community-level committee.

A statement by the Information Commissioner, Bala Zango, revealed that the steering committee, comprising officials from the state and local government areas, would be responsible for organizing processes and modeling the programme.

This approach aims to foster grassroots participation and ensure that development projects meet the specific needs of local communities, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth across Katsina State.
