Nine Agreements Inked By Nigeria And Turkey: See The Full List
Nigeria and Turkey on Tuesday formalized nine bilateral agreements designed to enhance diplomatic, economic, and strategic cooperation between the two nations, during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to Turkey.
According to official statements, President Tinubu signed the agreements alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and senior officials from both countries following a bilateral meeting in Ankara. Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, confirmed that the agreements were formally exchanged after the discussions.
The agreements span a variety of sectors, including defence, trade, education, diaspora affairs, and social development. Key accords include cooperation on diaspora policy, defence collaboration, the establishment of the Economy and Trade Joint Committee (JETCO), halal quality infrastructure, and higher education initiatives.
Additional agreements cover collaboration in media and communication, education, foreign affairs training academies, and social services. The media and communication agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices between the two countries, including joint seminars, workshops, training programs, and reciprocal visits for officials and experts. The accord is set to be valid for an initial three-year period.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Tinubu, President Erdoğan stated that Turkey aims to reach a $5 billion trade volume with Nigeria. He noted that discussions to expand trade and economic cooperation were already underway, describing Nigeria as a key partner for Turkey in Africa and reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to deepening collaboration across strategic sectors.
