In a communique issued at the conclusion of its political commission stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the NLC announced the dissolution of the Abure-led NWC and approved the constitution of a transition committee to manage the affairs of the party in the interim.

The transition committee, under the leadership of the NLC political commission, is tasked with conducting the affairs of the party pending the organization of an all-inclusive and expansive national convention.

Among its mandates, the transition committee is directed to initiate an assets recovery process for all party properties and address cases of fraud, impersonation, and forgery of government documents allegedly involving former LP officers. It is further mandated to oversee the revalidation of current LP members, register new members, and mobilize for an all-inclusive national convention.

The NLC emphasized the LP’s commitment to being a party for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, regional, social, or economic background. It called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to take note of these developments and dispatched correspondence to INEC for the official recognition of the transition committee as the interim leadership of the LP.
