NLC React To Zamfara Government’s N8,000 Salary For Teachers
Amidst the nationwide call for a new minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized the Zamfara State government for maintaining a meager monthly salary of N8,000 for primary school teachers across its 14 local government areas……READ ALSO NLC Demands Immediate Implementation Of N35,000 Wage Award For Kogi Workers
During the Workers’ Day celebration at the J.B. Secretariat in Gusau, the Chairman of NLC in Zamfara State, Sani Halliru, expressed disappointment over the state of affairs, highlighting the continuous struggle of primary school teachers who still receive N8,000 as their monthly salary despite mounting pressure on successive administrations.
Halliru urged Governor Dauda Lawal to implement the current N30,000 national minimum wage for Zamfara school teachers, emphasizing their unwavering dedication despite the inadequate pay.
He further stated, “Workers in Zamfara State are waiting for the NLC national leadership to take a stand on the proposed N750,000 new minimum wage in the country.”
In response, Governor Lawal acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the state’s civil servants amidst various challenges. He reassured them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare, promising to exceed their expectations.
While Governor Lawal did not make promises beyond his administration’s capacity, he assured the workers of positive surprises in terms of their welfare and well-being.
