IPOB Declares Sit-At-Home On May 30
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a sit-at-home protest across the Southeast on May 30 to commemorate Biafran heroes who lost their lives during the civil war from 1967 to 1970…..READ ALSO IPOB Warns Governor Soludo Against Playing Politics With Security, Accuses Him Of Desperation For Second Term
In a statement by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, all activities including schools, government offices, private offices, banks, transport unions, market unions, and individual operations are to be shut down on May 30.
The statement emphasizes the significance of May 30 as a solemn memorial day for Biafrans, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the Biafran cause. It calls for reflection on the consequences of Nigeria’s forced unity, which resulted in the loss of millions of Biafran lives.
While urging Biafrans within and outside Biafra territory to observe the sit-at-home protest, IPOB has exempted essential services such as medical workers, hospitals, and ambulances.
The statement also encourages Christians and traditional worshippers to use the day for prayers, seeking divine intervention for the fallen heroes and the eventual independence of Biafra from Nigeria.
In conclusion, IPOB reiterates the importance of commemorating Heroes Remembrance Day as a duty to honor and remember those who were brutally murdered during the genocidal war against Ndigbo, calling on Biafrans nationwide to participate in the sit-at-home protest.
