NLC Demands Immediate Implementation Of N35,000 Wage Award For Kogi Workers
Gabriel Amari, the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, has emphasized the pressing need for the implementation of a wage award totaling approximately N35,000 for workers in the state. Speaking on May Day in Lokoja, Amari underscored that the current National Minimum Wage of N30,000 falls short of meeting the essential needs of workers, especially given the prevailing economic conditions……READ ALSO NLC Demands Implementation Of N35,000 Wage Award For Kogi Workers
Amari urged the Kogi State Government to follow the lead of other states that have already acted upon the President’s recommendations concerning the payment of the wage award. He stressed that such action would reflect the government’s commitment to the welfare and livelihoods of its workforce.
In addition to advocating for the wage award, the NLC in Kogi State presented several specific concerns that they urge the government to address promptly. These include the payment of weigh-in allowances for workers in media houses, restoration of the 27.5% teachers’ peculiar allowance for educators in primary and secondary schools, issuance of all pending promotion letters, settlement of the 20% balance from the three-month percentage salary for 2018, full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for healthcare professionals, provision of affordable housing for workers, and allocation of resources for operational vehicles, financial support, and recruitment across various parastatals and ministries.
Moreover, Amari highlighted the security challenges confronting the state, particularly citing the recent attack in Agojeju-Odo Community in Omala Local Government. This incident resulted in casualties and property damage, including the loss of six workers from Kogi. Amari called upon Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to prioritize intelligence gathering and bolster community policing initiatives to complement law enforcement efforts in effectively addressing these security concerns.
