NLC’s Bold Move: New Strategy Emerges For Government Meetings

This significant announcement came from NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, signaling a departure from past practices where such meetings were commonplace.
Ajaero emphasized that these eve-of-action meetings often served as a tactic by the government to stall NLC’s plans and hinder the mobilization of its members, thwarting their ability to carry out intended actions effectively.
While affirming the NLC’s commitment to constructive dialogue and engagement with the government, Ajaero asserted that attending meetings on the eve of actions would no longer be acceptable.
“We will continue to attend meetings and engage in dialogue with the government. However, we have decided that we will not participate in meetings scheduled on the eve of our planned actions,” Ajaero stated emphatically.
He highlighted the recent incident where the government, during a meeting held on a Sunday, concurrently dispatched letters to various unions to undermine the NLC’s efforts, illustrating the need for a change in approach.
“This new resolve underscores our determination to prevent any attempts to delay or demobilize us. We cannot allow ourselves to be held back or prevented from carrying out our actions,” Ajaero asserted.
With this bold stance, the NLC aims to assert its independence and ensure that its actions remain unhindered by last-minute meetings orchestrated by the government, signaling a new era of assertiveness and strategic foresight in labor relations.
