No Hiding Place! Internet Scammers, Cultist Trapped In Delta Troop Operation

Troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force South South, Operation Delta Safe, have apprehended 183 suspected internet fraudsters along with a suspected cultist during a coordinated operation in Delta State.

According to iReporter Online, the raid was executed on July 19, 2025, in the Warri area following actionable intelligence. The Nigerian Army, in a statement released by Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed that the suspects—male individuals aged between 16 and 29—were rounded up from multiple residential locations alleged to be breeding grounds for cybercrime.

During the raid, the military recovered a significant cache of materials suspected to be tools of the illegal trade. Among the seized items were 274 laptops, 87 mobile phones, nine laptop chargers, a table phone, and two WiFi devices. Investigations are underway, and military authorities assured that due process would be followed in handling the suspects.

In a separate but related operation, troops arrested one Mr. Igbe Lucky Chika, 26, in Ezionun Community.

According to iReporter Online, he is suspected to be a member of the Viking confraternity. The army disclosed that he was caught in possession of a locally fabricated firearm, an axe, a cutlass, two phones, and a Toyota Camry bearing registration number Delta ASB 41 BE.

Preliminary findings linked the suspect to cult-related activities, and the military stated that he would be transferred to appropriate security agencies for in-depth investigation and possible prosecution.

Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade/Sector 1, commended the troops for their precision and discipline, reaffirming the army’s determination to cleanse Delta communities of crime and insecurity.

According to iReporter Online, the military vowed to continue executing intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks across the region.
