The commendation took place during the 2023 combined West African Social Activities (WASA) for Headquarters 63 Brigade and 181 Amphibious Battalion held at the 181 Amphibious Battalion New Barracks in Alifikede, Agbor, Ika South local government area of the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the governor credited the Army and security agencies for contributing to the maintenance of peace, infrastructure development, and unity across the state. He acknowledged the challenges and successes of the eventful year 2023, highlighting the Army’s gallant performance in tackling oil theft, various crimes, and successfully conducting the 2023 general elections.

Governor Oborevwori urged officers and soldiers to remain loyal and committed to their duties. He assured the Army of the continued support of the state government and paid a special tribute to fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the safety and unity of the country.

Brig. Gen. S. Aliyu, the chief host and Commander of 63 Brigade Asaba, in his opening remarks, explained that WASA aims to bring soldiers and their families together to celebrate the activities of the year. He emphasized that the exercise fosters bonding among soldiers and their families through the display of various cultural activities
