Ogun Talks About Supporting Prince Kuye As The Next Awujale

The Ogun State Government on Saturday refuted claims that it had endorsed Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye as the next Awujale of Ijebuland, labeling the reports as false and misleading.

According to Ireporter Online, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs stated that the government has not supported or adopted any candidate in the ongoing selection process.

“Attention has been drawn to rumours alleging that the Ifa oracle has selected Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye as the next Awujale and that the State Government has endorsed this purported outcome,” the statement said. “The government is not involved in, nor has it endorsed, any such claim.”

The government emphasized that the selection and installation of the Awujale follow strict legal procedures and recognised traditional customs. Any suggestion of government involvement through an oracle or informal channels is misleading and should be disregarded, it added.

The statement also revealed that the process of filling the vacant Awujale stool has been temporarily suspended. This decision comes in response to complaints and petitions received regarding the selection procedure. The pause is intended to allow a thorough review to ensure transparency, legality, and fairness for all parties involved.

The government urged the public to rely solely on official announcements and to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause tension. “The government remains committed to maintaining peace, order, and respect for due process and traditional institutions across the State,” the statement noted.

The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona at the age of 91, who reigned for 65 years. Earlier, in January, the state government halted the selection process for a second time within a month to safeguard public order and ensure the integrity of the exercise amid heightened security at the palace.

The process had also been suspended on December 18, 2025, due to procedural errors that could have led to legal disputes. The Fusengbuwa Ruling House reportedly shortlisted 95 contestants—94 princes and one princess—during a nomination meeting held at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode.
