Borno Deputy Police Commissioner K!lled In Car Accident

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the death of Assistant Commissioner of Police Abubakar Balteh in a fatal road accident. Balteh, who led the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), passed away on February 21, 2026, authorities said.

A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, expressed deep regret over the loss of the senior officer, noting that he served the command with diligence and dedication. Details of the burial arrangements are yet to be announced.

Daso prayed for the repose of Balteh’s soul, asking that Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest. The incident comes just months after the command mourned the loss of its Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died in November 2025 following a prolonged illness at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Police authorities described Balteh as a committed officer whose service to the Borno State Command remained unwavering until his untimely death.
