Osun ADC Candidate Concedes Defeat, Accepts Adeleke’s Victory
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, acknowledging the decision of voters in the just-concluded governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, Salaam, who finished third in the poll with 17,180 votes, said the outcome reflected the choice of the people and should be respected by all political stakeholders.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11. Salaam finished in third position.
Reacting to the result, Salaam urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to accept the outcome peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peace and unity of Osun State.
He maintained that political contests should not be treated as matters of life and death, stressing that the electorate had made its decision and democracy had prevailed.
Salaam congratulated Adeleke on securing another term in office and wished him success in his second tenure.
The ADC candidate also called on the governor to use the renewed mandate to address shortcomings identified during his first term while building on areas where his administration recorded progress.
He stressed that governance requires continuous evaluation and improvement, urging Adeleke to remain responsive to the needs of the people throughout his second term.
Salaam further appealed to the governor to govern inclusively and ensure that residents benefit from his administration regardless of their political affiliations.
He expressed optimism that Adeleke’s second term would bring increased development, peace and prosperity to the people of Osun State.
