Plateau Government Reviews Curfew Decision In Jos North Amid Fresh Developments
According to Ireporter Online, the Plateau State Government has further eased the curfew earlier imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following improved security conditions in the area.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the government said the decision was reached after consultations with security agencies, which confirmed that the security situation in Jos North and surrounding communities had become relatively stable.
The statement announced that the revised curfew will now run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, effective Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Residents were urged to comply with the directive, remain law-abiding, and continue to exercise vigilance within their communities. The government also encouraged citizens to support security operatives by reporting any suspicious movements or activities.
It further expressed appreciation to residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding during the period of restrictions.
The curfew was originally imposed following a violent attack on March 29 in the Gari Ya Waye community of Jos North, which reportedly claimed several lives and left others injured. The initial restriction, which lasted 48 hours, was enforced from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens,” while assuring that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible and prevent further violence.
The curfew was later relaxed on April 8, allowing residents to move freely between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., following what authorities described as a return to relative peace in affected areas.
