Police Recover 6 Stolen INEC Generators, Arrest 4 In Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has recovered six generators allegedly stolen from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega Local Government Area and arrested four suspects allegedly connected to the break-in.

One of the recovered generators had reportedly been dismantled into scrap parts by the suspects, allegedly in preparation for sale, before police operatives recovered it.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday, explaining that detectives launched an investigation after receiving a report of the break-in at the INEC office.

According to the police, the operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of all six generators believed to have been stolen from the government facility.

Usman said one of the generators had already been dismantled into smaller scrap components when officers recovered it.

In a separate operation, the command also arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the vandalism and theft of electricity cables in the state.

One of the suspects, identified as 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed from Dudduke Village in Jega LGA, was arrested at about 7:30 a.m. on August 28, 2026.

Police said Muhammed was allegedly found carrying bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.

During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to working with another suspect, identified as Yusuf Dudduke, to vandalise and steal cables from an electricity pole in the community.

Following the confession, police operatives arrested Yusuf, bringing the total number of suspects apprehended in the two separate incidents to six.

The command said the suspects would remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations, after which they would be charged before a court.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar M. Hadejia, warned individuals involved in the vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entering, and theft of government property to desist from such activities.

He assured residents that the command would continue to protect public infrastructure and pursue those suspected of engaging in criminal activities.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.
