RESIDENTS OF BENIN CITY GATHER FOR THE MARCH 8TH INITIATIVE EYECARE OUTREACH
Wednesday, the 27th of October, 2021 would be a day forever etched in the minds of citizens of Ugbowo, Benin City, Edo State, as it marked the start of the March 8th Initiative eye care outreach; a free medical intervention organized by the to provide free eye treatment and corrective eye surgeries for residents of the area.

The March 8th Initiative, a brainchild of the “Friends of Prof” is organized to inspire and promote communal, entrepreneurial and public-spirited endeavours within Nigeria in honor of His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
Working with the National Eye Centre and the State Ministries of Health, the Initiative is carrying out Eye Treatments and Corrective Eye Surgeries across the six geopolitical zones, for those suffering from cataracts and other eye diseases.
The University Teaching Hospital Ugbowo, Benin which played host to the event,
received from across the state, people with different types of eye challenges who trooped to the venue in the hope of receiving free eye treatment and corrective eye surgeries.
After only two weeks of screening and diagnosing people with various eye defects, and offering immediate treatment, the March 8th Initiative has been able to administer so far 1500 registered screenings, 500 eye care treatments, and 200 eye surgeries. Drugs were also administered and eyeglasses were given to people who need them.
With the March 8th Initiative eye care outreach still in its third week, residents of Benin and its environs should take advantage of this free medical outreach for those who have eye challenges or require eye surgery of any kind.
