Sokoto Gov Warns Officials: Return-Diverted N30,000 Sallah-Gift To Workers Or Face Serious-Consequences (Text)
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has issued a stern warning to local government and local government education authority officials alleged to have diverted N30,000 Sallah gifts meant for workers in the state. The governor made this declaration while addressing a gathering of supporters at the Government House, Sokoto, on Friday.
A statement from the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, highlighted Governor Aliyu’s dismay over the actions of certain financial officers who withheld the approved Sallah gifts from state workers.
“I wonder how somebody would deny our workers the stipends we gave them in order to make them financially stable during the Sallah festive season,” Governor Aliyu remarked.
He emphasized the need for immediate restitution of the diverted funds, warning of severe consequences for those who fail to comply.
“Those who diverted the funds must return them immediately, or else we will take punitive measures against them. We will ensure that the culprits reap what they sowed to serve as a deterrent to others,” the Governor asserted.
Governor Aliyu instructed all heads of agencies involved in the misappropriation to swiftly compile a list of affected workers for reimbursement. He reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to upholding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public funds.
“This administration is committed to zero tolerance for corruption. Anyone thinking they can loot public funds and escape consequences is mistaken,” he declared.
The Governor called on the people of Sokoto State to continue supporting his administration’s efforts to fulfill its electoral promises, promising diligent service to all citizens.
This directive underscores the Sokoto State Government’s resolve to ensure that public funds are used for their intended purposes, promoting trust and responsible governance among the populace.
