Eyewitnesses recounted the chilling events that unfolded around 6 p.m. on Sunday, as the traders, traveling in two vehicles, fell victim to the ruthless ambush orchestrated by the armed assailants.
According to reports, the gunmen opened fire on the convoy of traders, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake. One of the drivers and several traders met their tragic end on the spot, while the assailants callously set ablaze the vehicles, adding to the chaos and devastation.
Amidst the horror, sympathizers rallied to retrieve the bodies of the victims, eventually transporting them to the Jibia General Hospital for identification and funeral arrangements.
As the community grappled with the aftermath of the attack, details about the extent of injuries and potential abductions remained uncertain, casting a shadow of fear and uncertainty over the region.
While residents awaited official responses from state authorities, including Commissioner Nasiru Muazu and the state police command, Governor Dikko Radda sought to reassure the public of relative peace in the state.
Speaking at the West African Social Activities event organized by the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Governor Radda commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining order, urging continued collaboration to uphold stability and foster positive community relations.
Despite the governor’s assurances, the tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by armed groups in the region, underscoring the urgent need for decisive action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens
