We Have A Lot Of People In This Country Today That Are Hungry – Olanipekun Raises Alarm

Legal luminary Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) has appealed to affluent Nigerians to assist the majority who are impoverished for the sake of humanity and peace.

Olanipekun highlighted that around 70% of Nigerians are struggling with poverty, emphasizing that extending kindness by addressing their needs could significantly improve their lives and contribute to mitigating issues of transferred aggression.

He pointed out that the discontent and frustration of hungry people affect the peace of those who are financially stable, emphasizing the need for the country to address this form of transferred aggression.

“In a situation where we have almost 70 per cent of rudderless people, who are poverty-stricken, another 20 per cent out of the remaining 30 per cent are losing their jobs, a fragment of 10 per cent who think they are okay cannot be okay. That is why we have to show sympathy and we have to lift people,” he said.

Senior Advocate Chief Wole Olanipekun addressed a gathering in Ikere Ekiti during the 27th Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme, 4th Empowerment Programme of the Wole Olanipekun Foundation, and the distribution of palliatives.

The event, attended by Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji and Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, featured the awarding of scholarships to 250 students (comprising secondary and university/law school students), youth empowerment for 100 beneficiaries, and grants for 100 elderly and widows.

The foundation has a history of supporting education and empowerment initiatives, benefiting numerous students, entrepreneurs, and vulnerable individuals over the years.

While harping on the need to add value to humanity, Olanipekun said, “We have a lot of people in this country today that are hungry, a lot of people that are thirsty, a lot of people that are naked, a lot of people that are poverty-stricken.”

He added that there were also “a lot of people that are aimless, a lot of people that are roaming the streets, a lot of people that are jobless, a lot of people that cannot make ends meet and a lot of people looking at their last meal”

The senior advocate said that the essence of the programme was “to add value to humanity. That is the essence of living. We have to help ourselves. One thing that tickles me about life is that it is always good to impact meaningfully positively on lives, humanity, on your fellow human beings”.

Senate Leader Bamidele, who presided over the event, commended Wole Olanipekun for his commitment to the community and Ekiti State, portraying him as “a celebrated citizen of Nigeria and a hero with a good heart and strength of character.”

Bamidele acknowledged Olanipekun’s integrity and consistency as a role model, attracting various personalities to him. Governor Oyebanji praised Olanipekun as a diligent individual willing to share his blessings with humanity.
