In a statement delivered by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized the importance of Igbo philanthropists supporting farmers in their communities by providing seedlings and agricultural tools instead of offering short-term food provisions.
The statement stressed that investing in agriculture could help avert food shortages and starvation in the Southeast and Nigeria at large. IPOB pledged to provide seedlings to selected farmers and ensure the protection of farmlands from Fulani herdsmen.
Encouraging the cultivation of various agricultural products, IPOB urged Igbos to invest in animal husbandry as well. The organization also advocated for the establishment of Agricultural Cottage Industries to process and preserve agricultural products for export, highlighting the fertile lands available in Biafra Land for agriculture.
Furthermore, IPOB called on patriotic Biafrans to sensitize their communities on the importance of farming, emphasizing that food sufficiency should be a top priority. The statement reiterated the significance of self-sufficiency in food production to prevent vulnerability to external control over food supply.
Lastly, IPOB assured its commitment to providing support to farmers and protecting farmlands through its security outfit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to create a conducive environment for agricultural activities.
The statement concluded by urging Biafrans to invest heavily in agriculture for both domestic consumption and exportation, emphasizing that food sufficiency is crucial for the welfare and independence of the Biafran people.
