We Shall Overcome!’ – Northern Governors Respond To Maiduguri Blasts

According to Ireporter Online, the Northern States Governors’ Forum has strongly condemned the deadly bomb explosions that shook Maiduguri on Monday evening, calling the attacks barbaric and a direct assault on innocent lives.

The explosions reportedly occurred nearly simultaneously at multiple locations, including the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the Monday Market Roundabout, and the Post Office area, leaving numerous casualties and several others injured.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, the governors expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident, extending condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly families who lost loved ones.

Yahaya described the attacks as senseless acts of violence designed to instill fear and undermine the fragile peace in the North-East, calling the incident a “cruel assault on our collective humanity” that must be condemned in the strongest terms.

He also expressed sympathy for the injured, praying for their swift recovery, and commended first responders and security agencies for their rapid intervention in managing the aftermath.

Reaffirming their commitment to security, the governors pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies to combat terrorism and other criminal activities threatening the region. Yahaya urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies with credible information to aid investigations.

“Now more than ever, we must stand united against forces of terror. Our resolve to secure our region remains firm, and together we shall overcome these cowardly acts,” Yahaya added. He further called for intensified efforts to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.
