Wike Blames Fubara’s Allies For Rivers Crisis, Says Governor Lost Most

According to Ireporter Online, Wike made the allegation on Saturday during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, where he mentioned former Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Edison Ehie, Chijioke Ihunwo, Victor Oko Jumbo and activist Ankio Briggs as individuals he believes influenced the governor’s decisions during the dispute.

The FCT minister claimed that the actions and counsel of those around Fubara affected the implementation of agreements reached during the peace process initiated by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political disagreement.

Wike alleged that the advice given to the governor caused him to move away from commitments reached during the settlement discussions, adding that Fubara eventually became the biggest casualty of the political conflict.

He expressed sympathy for the Rivers governor, saying the prolonged crisis brought significant challenges and setbacks to Fubara’s political journey.

“I feel for Governor Siminalayi Fubara because he is the biggest loser. The people around the governor gave him wrong counsel, and that affected the political situation in Rivers State,” Wike said.

The disagreement between Wike and Fubara, who succeeded him as governor of Rivers State, resulted in one of the biggest political crises in the state’s recent history.

The dispute later contributed to the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, during which Fubara was suspended from office for six months.

Although Fubara later moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he was unable to secure the party’s ticket to contest for another term.

The governor has since announced his return to Wike’s political camp following months of intense rivalry and disagreements that shaped Rivers State’s political landscape.
