Zamfara Government Moves To Protect Workers’ Salaries With New Directive

Governor Lawal instructed the state’s Commissioner of Finance to ensure that deductions made by cooperative societies and commodity vendors are immediately halted. Only statutory deductions—such as PAYE, union dues, NHF, ZAMCHEMA, water rates, FMB (Rent to Own), FMB (Home Renovation), and Housing Corp Loans—are to be processed.

A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, emphasized that the Governor’s decision aims to reform the state payroll system, which has been burdened with illegal surcharges under the guise of cooperative and loan repayments. The Governor assured that the administration is dedicated to improving the welfare and working conditions of civil servants in Zamfara, with a focus on creating a productive and motivated workforce.
