Mass Defection Hits APC As Lawmakers Join PDP With Thousands Of Supporters In Northern Nigeria

APC vs PDP

On Monday, the Katsina State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost a large number of members, as well as three members of the House of Representatives, to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Hamza Dalhatu (Rimi/Charanci/Batagarawa constituency), Salisu Iro (Katsina constituency), and Ahmad Dayyabu (Danmusa/Batsari/Safana constituency) are the three APC House of Representatives members who have defected to the PDP.

They reportedly abandoned the APC in favor of the PDP after a private meeting with PDP Presidential Candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Sokoto on Sunday.

Dr. Mustapha Muhammed Inuwa, the former Secretary to the Katsina State Government who is now the Director General of the Atiku Lado Campaign Council in Katsina, is said to be the driving force behind Atiku’s meeting with the Katsina APC House of Representatives member who failed to secure a return ticket to the National Assembly during the party’s primary elections.

During the party’s campaign tour to Kurfi LGA on Monday, two top leaders of the ruling Katsina APC defected to the PDP, along with thousands of their supporters.

Sen. Umar Tsauri, Chairman of the Atiku/Lado Campaign Council, presented Alh. Bishir Lawal and Dahiru Ahmed (aka Baba Dahe), along with 9,390 of their supporters, to residents of the area who flocked to greet them.

Tsauri assured Kurfi residents that if the PDP wins, they will address insecurity, restore free education, and open all borders.
